Common Name: Pileated Woodpecker

Scientific Name: Dryocopus pileatus

Comments: A pair of pileated woodpeckers showed up near the barn along the Billings Loop. You can tell the maie by the red band under its eye, which the female lacks. The female dropped down to a rotted stump to forage for grubs.
