The frosted elfin butterfly is a species of special concern in Massachusetts. The frosted elfin is widely distributed in eastern North America, from New Hampshire south to Georgia and west to Wisconsin and Texas but colonies are rare and localized throughout this range. In Massachusetts this species is largely restricted to sandplain habitats on the coastal plain and in the Connecticut River Valley. Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program
